North Vietnamese Army & Vietcong North Vietnamese Army (NVA) North Vietnam's allies included the National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam (NLF or Vietcong) and the Soviet Union and China. NVA soldiers were fulltime and employed similar tactics to the US and its allies. They patrolled areas and wore uniforms of green (winter) or brown (summer), the green uniform & webbing was so similar to the US & Australians that they were often mistaken for friendlys out on patrol in the same area. The Soviet Union provided arms and training for the North Vietnamese Airforce. The NLF was funded,equipped and staffed by South Vietnamese & NVA. They were recruited from the local area that they were to operate in. Most times they were farmer peasants by day and fighter / supporter at night. They had cultural groups that sang,danced and performed political shows.
